Mr. Faisal Cheema, a past student of Lake Brantley, was brought on to join the staff of the Patriots this school year. Cheema is now an honors geometry teacher located in building seven.

Cheema, new to the math department, brings a refreshing and unique style of teaching to his classroom. Cheema challenges students to solve problems on the board and interact amongst themselves in order to solve problems. It’s an interactive classroom where Cheema insures that all students comprehend the material. Along with his teaching style in class, students are encouraged to come after school for extra help in the areas that they struggle in.

“I don’t really like geometry,” freshmen Josh Hasley said. “He’s teaching style is different, he’s a good teacher, but it’s different. It’s an interesting combination, I like the teacher and the people.”

Cheema attended Seminole State College and the University of Central Florida in order to obtain an Engineering degree. During his time at Seminole State College, Cheema began tutoring through the school’s program in order to make extra money, a system that he now replicates after school in his classroom. After his time working at Seminole State Cheema graduated with an AA in 2009 and went on to graduate from the  University of Central Florida in 2012.

“I started working there to make some extra money and they started to like me,” Cheema said. “They eventually hired me as a helper to professors. It’s how I got started as a teacher. My biggest inspiration was the students, they liked my work and wanted me to go on.”

Mr. Cheema may be new to Brantley’s staff but he is definitely not new to the school. Cheema attended graduated from Brantley in 2005 and now works with his old Calculus teacher, Sharon Linamen, who is head of the department. While Cheema is in the classroom he often thinks back to his time at Brantley and how much the school’s environment has changed.

“Mr. Cheema was an excellent student always doing his best which resulted in strong academic achievement,” said Sharon Linamen. “ I do enjoy working with him”.
