Meet the Mascot!
At football games, he paces along the sideline, dancing with the cheerleaders. At pep rallies, he high-fives all team members as they jog in. And when the team scores, he runs laps, waving an American flag over his shoulder as his patriot hat flies off behind him. He is the school mascot, our own Patriot Pat. But few students know, who is he really under the mascot head?
“I think it’s really important to have a mascot at our school because it really shows school spirit. He really brings the second ‘wow factor’ next to our amazing band,” sophomore Fabiana Rabell said. “Keeping the mascot’s identity [secret] is important for the reason of everyone wanting to know who he really is. Not knowing makes things more exciting.”
Here are some clues to Patriot Pat’s student identity. Can you guess who?
- Is the human personality equivalent of a Golden Retriever
- Will eat “practically anything”
- Looks great in yoga pants
- Enjoys hugs and long walks on the beach
- Loves smoothies, specifically the Vinnie Del Rocco at Planet Smoothie
- Looks great in bright colors
- Is single and “generally ready for mingling”
Whether or not you can guess who is hiding inside the Patriot Pat costume, the tradition of secrecy that accompanies being mascot will continue, allowing the wearer to be the face of the school at events and a normal student by day.
“[By being anonymous] I can walk through campus and not be recognized, like Sia [the singer],” Patriot Pat said. “It’s just a fun time. It’s fun to go around and act stupid and not have people judge me for being stupid.”
