There are 104 days of summer vacation and school comes around to end it, but the memories live on. Pool parties and summer hangouts with friends help beat the heat and unwind. However, when all is said and done the annual question is: what were the highlights of this summer? From ground breaking new albums to enticing movies that left viewers in tears, this summer seemed to have it all.
On Jun. 7 a new album took social media and people by storm, brat by Charli XCX. Fans loved her album so much that it got its own dance on social media. Another reason why XCX’s new music was so riveting was because she made a single with Billie Eilish. Eilish had a surge of popularity since she released her new album titled Hit Me Hard and Soft that hit the charts right before the summer. The song “Guess” had listeners obsessed with these artists joining together. This brat album even took the gamer community and ran with them to develop a new update in the popular Roblox game, “Dress to Impress.”
“Dress to Impress,” a fashion game on Roblox with over one billion players, celebrated the milestone this summer with an update that altered the whole game set up, including a new set of summer apparel. From bathing suits to mermaid tails, people could further express their fashion creativity while keeping up with the summer aesthetic.At the end of the summer they topped their previous summer update with an additional one. The catch with this update was that to get the more impressive mermaid tail you had to compete for it. This competition added a new layer to the game which drew in more players and a higher thirst for victory.
“Dress to Impress” was not the only place where there was a thirst for victory; sports fans had the Euro championship, alongside other universal sporting events. The Euro championship happened on Jun. 14 and lasted till Jul. 14 with Spain scoring a goal and winning the championship. The Paris Olympics were also a successful event with all participants aiming for gold.
Hollywood had a productive summer as well. The sequel of “Inside Out” that was released Jun. 14 had viewers sobbing, and needless to say tissues were not safe from this movie. This movie was about Riley growing up and trying to deal with puberty and managing her mental health. “Inside Out 2” did not only touch on topics that needed to be discussed Like mental health issues and the feeling of not fitting in., it also touched our hearts. Alongside that, “Twisters” took audiences by storm in a captivating movie about a retired storm chaser and social media star’s quest to chase tornadoes. However, it was much more than that as people flocked to the theaters to watch the ‘climatic’ reference to the 1996 film. Now as the curtains shut on these summer movies the curtains also close on this year’s summer round up.
