The 2025 AP exam season begins in the first week of May and leaves students across all grades in the school to spend hours inside studying with every clock counting down to the exam. Both teachers and students have been filled with worry as the results of the exams will dictate the future of these hard working pupils.
The largest concern of them all has been whether or not students are prepared to face the belly of the beast and come out unscathed. AP exams are what determine if students will receive the college credit they have been working towards all school year. Teachers have prepared their students months in advance, to be able to ace all components of the exam. All advanced placement exams consist of an extensive multiple choice section and a few free response questions. Other classes, such as the advanced placement history courses, have the added bonus of writing an essay, sometimes two, on different subjects with separate requirements.
“I think my teacher has done a pretty good job of preparing me to face the exams, though I am a little bit nervous,” sophomore Lauren Kimball said.
The credit of passing these exams cannot be just handed toward the teachers for having prepared their students so wonderfully well, but it also relies on the study methods of the students themselves. Passing AP exams requires extensive work both inside and outside the classroom. To help, most teachers present projects to review content and skills, but other students still take advantage of reviewing notes and reading outside materials.
“I think it’s interesting to come from the perspective of a senior and the AP classes I am taking this year because you have to more so prepare at home rather than just at school. I think my teachers have helped me, more than anything this year, to prepare me for my exams but I think there is a sense of security in also studying at home for the exams,” senior Cary D’Ortona said.
The AP exams are nothing new. They happen every year and each student is highly aware that the month of May consists of frequent exams as the school year ends. But the students are prepared for them as they continue to study and build confidence in their skills to ace these exams just as they have the years before.
“This year feels no different from all the others before in taking the exams and I do have strong faith in my skills. Like a solid four out of five,” sophomore Ethan Moon said.
