Since ice rinks are closed for quarantine, Sophomore Julia Moon practices stick-handling outside her front yard with an old hockey stick and taped golf ball.

Staff Pick: Hockey or Homebody

Being under quarantine is not always fun when your local restaurant is open only for takeout or your favorite seat at the movie theater cannot be taken anymore because the theaters are closed. But of all the places that I go to, the rink was probably my go-to second after going to school. Since there is no ice that is open within an hour radius from my house, practicing small stick-   handling drills outside–and if space provides, inside, can be an easy way to take the mind off of quarantine. Players all over are setting up practice areas to keep their hockey skills in shape when their local hockey rink is closed because of the virus. Doing drills outside can give players both some sun and exercise, and playing a quick game of street hockey can also be a fun activity for anyone with the right equipment. Though running or rollerblading will never be the same as gliding on the ice, a couple laps with a ball or street puck can never hurt a skater under quarantine. Like ice hockey, many other sports can still be practiced outside your home. Tennis, figure skating, basketball, and a handful of other activities can help keep athletes in shape during their stay at home.
