At the midpoint of their season, things were looking promising for the girls varsity soccer team. A few games later, things are looking even better. After pulling more wins against various schools, the team is in good shape for their upcoming district tournament, which has its first game on Wednesday, Jan. 26. Perhaps the most significant victory was that against Lyman High School on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

After ending the previous match with Lyman as a tie, the girls came out with a 5-2 win, thus upping the momentum for the season and putting the team in a better overall position against other teams in their district. With game stats of seven wins, two losses, and one ending in a tie, the team is looking more and more promising for Districts.

“This game was really significant because we tied against Lyman last time and we needed to win this time,” sophomore Amarise Garcia Roman said. “I was really hoping to win this game since we tied last time and I couldn’t play.”

Following the game, the team’s morale soared because of both the exhilaration of winning and the boost in the team’s formidable reputation.

“The team felt really good after the game because we won and we knew it would help our ranking for districts,” Garcia Roman said. “There were a lot of standout moments in the game. Some for me was when I scored a goal to break the tie, and Maddie’s [Jones] banger of a goal to clinch the win for us.”

Given their excellent performance throughout the season so far, the team has high hopes and expectations for the remainder of their matches. At the rate they are going, the first district game is sure to be ripe with anticipation and excitement.

“I’m excited to have a lot of fun this season,” junior Caroline Schalk said. “Have nice games. Win. And get as far as we can.”

Capping off their recent wins, the team is going full steam ahead for the rest of their season. With high spirits, comradery and stats that look better than ever, the season is turning into one of their most enthralling and remarkable ones yet.

“This is a very special year for our team,” coach John Morand said. “My hope is that our players get every bit of enjoyment out of this season as they possibly can. We also hope that our seniors will take the opportunity to mentor and foster the growth of the younger players around them. A huge part of our mission goes beyond the soccer field. We want our players to become more confident adults moving forward, as a result of having been on our team.”
