Gauge’s Perspective
Chilly weather and falling leaves, fall is officially here. It is that time of year where people are preparing for the festivities. However, fall might have friends falling out from all the controversial opinions.
Fall is one of my favorite seasons, the cool weather, the movies, the food and drinks; it’s amazing. Which is why when it started, in August, I was elated. Some people want the four seasons to be divided up equally, but sadly this is not the way the world works. None of the seasons are divided equally; they all begin, and end based on the feeling of the world. Fall starts in the beginning of August and goes until Nov. 30. After that it’s winter until the middle of January, then it changes to spring and so on.
The flavor of fall is pumpkin, it’s just a fact, when people think of fall foods they’ll think of pumpkin spice or pie. Pumpkins are scrumptious, especially pumpkin spice. It is one of the best flavors and I get very happy when it comes around. It is sweet, soft and buttery, especially with cinnamon. The smell is everywhere carrying the spirit of fall. On the topic of flavors in fall, candy corn is another flavor which many disagree on. Candy corn for me personally is a great flavor, definitely one of my top ten candies. Some people say it’s only specific to Halloween but it’s more of a general fall flavor to me.
Moving on to another fall holiday, Thanksgiving. Tons of food, family all together and thankfulness all around. Thanksgiving embodies fall in all its elements. Though Halloween just feels more like a fun activity that is included in the fall season, fall wouldn’t be the same without Thanksgiving. Families and friends getting together and bonding over an absolute universal language: food.
Austyn’s Perspective
When September comes upon us, it means that fall has started. Many people might disagree, but according to the seasonal organization of the years and months, it only makes sense for fall to start in September. There are 12 months and 4 seasons so logically each season gets three and that would mean that September would get put into fall and August gets put into summer. So, since fall is now here it is bittersweet: sweet from the festivities, bitter from the bitter taste of pumpkin.
Pumpkin takes over the sweet treat world during fall, but it is a horrible flavor; it has nodes of leaves with a weird buttery taste. Pumpkin scent is in every store, house and establishment and the sickening scent is turning stomachs. Overall pumpkin is also shoved down consumers throats that it is really difficult to not get sick of hearing about the new pumpkin coffee that happens every year. On the same note candy corn is a disgrace to the fall brand. Candy corn was invented in the 1800’s and every piece you eat tastes like it is stiff enough to be from the 1800’s. Candy Corn is nothing but a cheap candy that has the same flavor as candle wax. It also comes without wrappers, which is unhygienic and disgusting. How are you supposed to hand out that candy corn on Halloween?
On this topic, Halloween Ghosts, goblins and gnarly scares to get candy. Halloween is arguably the best holiday to take place during the autumn months. The only other option for a fall holiday is Thanksgiving which does not even come close to Halloween. Thanksgiving is based on the taking of land from native Americans and the lie of a happy dinner between pilgrims and the natives. This fuels the mind of the youth and screws the idea of the founding of America. Halloween has candy that is a sweet that is not crushed by the guilty consensus of these horrible acts.
