Home Again

Hallie Meyers-Sheyer’s 2017 film, Home Again, follows a newly separated mom of two, Alice Kinney (Reese Witherspoon), with her two daughters Isabel (Lola Flanery) and Rosie (Eden Grace Redfield). On her 40th birthday, Kinney meets three young and broke filmmakers, Harry (Pico Alexander), Teddy (Nat Wolff), and George (Jon Rudnitsky), and allows them to move in with her as she adjusts to her newly separated life. The plot later thickens as Kinney’s ex-husband, Austen (Michael Sheen), returns in the middle of a heated romance between Kinney and one of her new tenants.
With the fluffy plot line and witty humor, this movie was entertaining to watch. However, the film lacked realism, which was shown through the entitlement and privileges that the characters had. The three boys just so happened to meet a very wealthy woman who has ties to the movie industry, the area in which they are trying to excel in. There were not a lot of effects or music in this film, which made scenes dry and patchy. However, the great acting made up for shortcomings.
Although Home Again was entertaining, it lacked the basics for a great film. The acting was superb, but the plot was predictable and cliche. While it gave me the heartwarming feeling at the end, and the attractive and charming characters made up for the music, I would only recommend this film to those who are looking for a fairy tale, not a realistic story.
