Spooky Pizookie? More like Kooky Pizookie

Our Spooky Pizookie, although very tasty, was tragically not very spooky.

The fall season has much to offer, from the infamous Pumpkin Spice Latte to pumpkin donuts, autumnal-themed candles and much, much more. Starting the first day of October (and often even earlier), many restaurants and cafes change their menus to revolve around a particular fall item. One restaurant in particular that partakes is BJ’s, with their newly popular dessert dish, the “Spooky Pizookie”.

The Spooky Pizookie consists of a gooey cookies n’ cream cookie topped with two scoops of orange-colored “rich vanilla bean” ice cream. It is sprinkled with Oreo crumbles, and Halloween-themed sprinkles,  then served with a side cauldron of hot chocolate to create your own crispy chocolate shell.

The dessert item went viral on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. This inspired many, me included, to go and try it. For only eight dollars I got a very appetizing Spooky Pizookie. However, my experience was different from those broadcasted on social media.

When I received the Spooky Pizookie, I received a cookies n’ cream cookie with two scoops of plain vanilla ice cream and chocolate on top. When I asked the server about the lack of “spookiness”, he said that due to the overwhelming popularity of the Spooky Pizookie, they had run out of the orange-colored vanilla ice cream. Though this was no one’s fault, it was a travesty.

While my Spooky Pizookie was actually very kooky, the dessert as a whole was amazing. The ice cream and the loaded deep dish cookie made for the perfect combination in my mouth and the chocolate shell was the cherry on top.

Although my Spooky Pizookie was not very spooky, it was by far one of the best dessert dishes I have had. This chilling treat is the perfect way to celebrate the fall season. If you are a fan of  Halloween or desserts in general, this scary treat is perfect for you.
