Varsity cheerleaders perform at Thursday’s lunch pep rally as everyone gets ready for the upcoming game.

One of the biggest moments of the high school football season is the long-awaited rivalry game. Coming off of a fresh win against Palmetto Ridge, spirits were high heading into “Beat Lake Mary” week as students got ready for the Thursday night game. The week featured fun dress-up themes for every day and a pep rally on game day as a final send-off for cheerleaders and football players as they prepared to travel to Lake Mary High School. Despite losing the game, the student body still enjoyed the spirit-filled week and brought an electric student section.

Girls varsity volleyball serves up the season
Welcoming members from all backgrounds, the club meets bi-weekly and focuses on appreciating various aspects of Asian culture in a fresh, unique and entertaining way. “It’s fun and you get to meet new friends,” Ramos said. “We get to learn about different parts of Asia and participate in activities and make new foods. We plan to have people bring food from their culture.”

During the lunch, games such as cornhole and spikeball were available on the football field for seniors to play. Things got competitive as friends faced off against each other in intense matches.

The block schedule was implemented for the 2023-2024 school year. It was made to increase more learning time for students by allowing for 90 minute class periods.

The newly appointed ‘King of the Student Section’ Carson Homitz starts off the pep rally strong with his passionate entrance speech. Later that day he would lead the student section in cheers, chants and other traditions in support of the football team.

The majority Senior Group, Commercial 4, performs a stunning piece entitled Underground, choreographed by senior Aaliyah Spurlock. They turned up the intensity of the dance near the end, performing the pictured lift.

The Addams open the show in the campy macabre piece “Meet the Addams”. The song features short solos for each of the main Addams family members and a backing filled with an ensemble of ghostly ancestors.

Before inviting the incoming freshman class on Feb. 8, cheerleaders got ready for their Patriot Preview Performance. “The team I performed with was our gameday competition team and we performed at this to try to make the incoming students excited to go to Brantley,” senior Kiley Johnson said. “Our performance went well and we got a lot of energy from the people attending, which was cool.”

On Mon. Nov. 7, the juniors and seniors prepared to face off in the annual powderpuff game. Seniors Lindsay Sheridan and Riley Fisher use face paint to show camaraderie and class spirit, donning the colors of the senior team. “The time that we spent in the locker room was so fun,” senior Riley Fisher said. “We were all able to bond before the game, especially because we were there twice, since the first game was postponed.”

Prior to the Homecoming game and dance, students and faculty participate in spirit days and afterschool events. In honor of the school’s 50th year being open, homecoming week’s spirit themes and festivities are designed around the school’s opening roots: the 70s.

Madalyn Propst is a senior and second year staff member, as well as the staff's multi-media editor. She is heavily involved with choir, being a member of both Spectrum and Fortefy. She is also a member of multiple honor societies and is planning to attend the Naval Academy next fall.
