Madalyn Propst, Staff Reporter

Madalyn Propst is a junior and first year staff reporter. She is heavily involved in the Choir program,  a member of the Varsity wrestling team, and a member of the Lacrosse program. She is a member of several honor societies, and works very closely with the Seminole County Democratic Party.

After the initial courtyard welcoming, families entered the auditorium, met with the LBHS Dance team. “We performed a fun hip hop dance choreographed by Mr. Ramos,” senior Aaliyah Spurlock said. “We usually use hip hop for student based audiences because it gets them hyped and it’s fun to watch.”

One of the featured tables at Patriot Preview was Business Professionals of America, a club that attends competitions to face off against other students in all aspects of business. “As president of BPA, I primarily spoke about all the opportunities it can provide students and offered fliers for more information,” senior Naomi Stricker said. “Overall, it was really cool to see parents going from skeptical to intrigued after hearing more.”

As high school serves to connect students with future careers, the Junior ROTC was there to share information regarding the opportunities provided. “ROTC went to Patriot Preview to promote our program and the Embry-Riddle Dual Enrollment program,” junior Ansley Heekin said. “I was explaining to the incoming freshman what our program stands for and what a typical week in our program looks like.”

The gameday cheerleading team performed part of the routine that the delivered at nationals. Incoming students were given a glimpse into the school spirit felt on campus. “We are all excited for nationals this weekend and practicing in front of a crowd before the real thing helps us build our confidence,” senior Gracie Califar said. “We really wanted to give a good first impression to incoming freshman, so we strived to perform at our best.”

Along with clubs, sports were well represented at Patriot Preview. The water polo team, aside many others, used this time to recruit potential players for the next school year.

In the courtyard, after the drumline started to play, members of the dance team began dancing to the music, showing off their moves to the middle schoolers. “I was trying to motivate upcoming freshman to join our dance team and show them our fun environment,” senior Lindsay Sheridan said.

As student body representatives, Student Government Association attended Patriot Preview to welcome the incoming freshmen and their parents. SGA students work to create a positive school environment, while planning events for their fellow Patriots. “We were there to recruit freshmen for next year’s leadership class,” junior Rileigh Garmon said. “There have been lots of changes to the class, including freshmen being involved, so it was important for us to advertise to them.”

Before inviting the incoming freshman class on Feb. 8, cheerleaders got ready for their Patriot Preview Performance. “The team I performed with was our gameday competition team and we performed at this to try to make the incoming students excited to go to Brantley,” senior Kiley Johnson said. “Our performance went well and we got a lot of energy from the people attending, which was cool.”
